I believe that the library media center serves as the information center of
the school. The program provides all
members of the learning community with access to information, reading
materials, research assistance, and instructional guidance that will enhance
the learning experience for all. This is
supported by the idea that information literacy skills are taught within the
curriculum. The function of the library
media center is to focus on enhancing the overall classroom learning experience
and supporting the school’s instructional goals by providing a welcoming, comfortable, and constructive learning environment as well as collaboration with teachers. The central goal is for students to become life-long learners.
Program Goals
My program goals included learning how to promote reading, collaborate with teachers, and be a service to the future school where I would be working. As a media specialist, I feel that I have the job of learning what is best for my school and doing the best I can to try and meet those needs. As I near the end of my program, I feel these goals have been met.
This program has prepared me to be a "modern" media specialist. I now feel I have the knowledge I need to collaborate with teachers to improve student achievement. I also feel prepared to incorporate technology and information literacy skills into the curriculum. Of course, being a Media Specialist is an ongoing learning process, and I plan on continuing to grow and learn in this profession.
Life Goals
Eventually, I would love to have children with my husband. I'm looking forward to raising them and having a family. I would like to continue being a loving and supportive wife to my husband. I also hope to continue setting and meeting goals for myself, both personally and professionally.
Future professional plans: I have already achieved my main goal when I entered into this program- becoming a Media Specialist! I always told myself as I went through the program that I would always have the option of going back to being a classroom teacher if I ended up not liking the job. As it turns out, I love my job as a Media Specialist, and I don't think I'll ever go back to being a classroom teacher. Eventually, I would like to get my Specialist Degree.
Unique characteristics: Something I believe is unique about me is that I got a job as a Media Specialist without a master's degree. I feel that the main reason for this is that this program prepared me so well that I was exactly what the school was looking for before I even graduated. I am able to work with a non-renewable certificate until I graduate with my degree.
Something else unique about me is that I'm married to my high school sweetheart. I know not many people have had that happen to them, so I think it's pretty special. My husband and I are best friends, and we laugh together everyday.
